Oxygen Index Testing is a method for measuring the minimum concentration of oxygen in a flowing mixture of oxygen and nitrogen when burning a combustible plastic material. The test method provides conditions for fire test exposure and helps to understand the burning characteristics of a material. The vertical edge of the sample is ignited and a measurement of the oxygen flow across the material is measured after introducing the oxygen/nitrogen mixture across the sample.
