Rubber Compounding Chemist –Technical Advisor

Location: Akron Rubber Development Laboratory (ARDL) – Barberton Campus
Department: Compounding & Technical Consulting Department

Position Summary:

Akron Rubber Development Laboratory, Inc., an industry-leading testing laboratory for rubber, plastic and latex, is seeking a Rubber Compounding Chemist –Technical Advisor who has a passion for solving rubber/plastics problems. This position would report directly to a Sr. Technical Advisor who would mentor and grow this employee for future advancement.

Required Capabilities:

  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interface with customers
  • Familiar with rubber formulation, mixing specifications
  • Familiar with rubber mixing, molding, extrusion, and or calendaring
  • Understand testing properties of rubber and plastics and be able to make decisions based on testing results.
  • Requires, multi-tasking, time management, self-motivation, and an eagerness to learn
  • Entails working on a variety of projects at one time.
  • Customer follow-up, report writing, project collaboration and the willingness to be a team player
  • Organizes and manages projects to ensure timely completion
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
  • Computer literate, with Microsoft Office and Windows experience
  • Committed to continued professional growth and technical knowledge development

Education/Preferred Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree and/or equivalent experience in a related field in a production or laboratory environment required. Minimum of at least 2 years of experience as a formulation/production chemist in a rubber or plastics production environment and be familiar formulation, mixing, molding, calendaring, and or extrusion processes.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time position, offering medical, dental, vision benefits, 401k and paid vacation. Working hours are flexible and determined by department needs, with recommended hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching, as well as manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and normal hearing and vision sufficient to operate equipment and maintain records.
